Preparation for Post-Graduation CFS Employment

Idaho Social Work Licensure: All Idaho Child Welfare Scholars must make application for social work licensure and sit for the exam prior to graduation, with the goal of being licensed for their appropriate level of practice (BSW = LSW license; MSW = LMSW license) prior to graduation.

(Note: Idaho licensure is required in order to apply for the Social Worker and Clinician positions with CFS. Consequently, in order for students to appropriately follow through with their post-graduation employment obligation, they must first obtain an Idaho social work license prior to applying for employment.)

Idaho Child Welfare Scholars who are CFS employees must apply for Idaho Social Work Licensure and take all necessary steps to be licensed at the level appropriate to their education within 30 days after graduation and provide a copy of their license to their Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.

Copies of licenses must be given to the Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.

Preparation for CFS employment: Idaho Child Welfare Scholars who are not CFS employees must document completion of these three steps:

  1. Students must consult with the IDHW employment recruiter (or their regional representative) within 90 days of graduation so that the recruiter is made fully aware of the student's availability for CFS employment. Documentation of this contact must be submitted to the Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.
  2. Students must apply for state employment and be placed on the Division of Human Resources employment register(s) that the student is qualified for within 30 days after graduation. Examples of these registers include Social Worker (BSW and MSW), Clinician (MSW), Human Resources Supervisor (MSW), Clinical Supervisor (MSW), and Human Services Regional Specialist (MSW). Students must specify availability to work in at least two Regions of the state. The student must submit documentation of placement on the state employment register(s) to their Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.
  3. For a period of 60 working days following placement on the employment register(s), the graduate agrees to actively seek employment with CFS, attend job interviews and accept employment if offered. The student must submit documentation of the outcome(s) of interviews and offers of CFS employment to their Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.

Continuation of CFS employment: Idaho Child Welfare Scholars who are CFS employees are obligated to return to their workplace of origin unless approval for release is obtained. The length of the post-graduation employment obligation is calculated at one year of employment for each year of stipend funds received. Documentation of employment status at the end of the employment obligation period must be submitted to the Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator.

Obligations of the Department, and conditions under which students are referred for stipend repayment, are outlined in the Employee and Non-Employee contracts.
