Field Education

Idaho Child Welfare Scholars complete the number of credits and hours and schedule of field education required by their college/university program.

While Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinators attempt to provide the best match between student learning needs and the availability of field placements, it may not always be possible to accommodate each student's individual desires regarding their field assignment.

As a rule, the availability of agency field instructors and the agency's availability to facilitate student field placements are primary factors considered in assigning students to field placements.

Idaho Child Welfare Scholars will be supervised by agency field instructors who meet the qualifications the sponsoring colleges / universities, according to accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education.

The Child Welfare Faculty Field Coordinator's field education role includes:

  • Field practicum assignment
  • Integrative seminar instruction
  • Student evaluation / grade assignment
  • Academic advising

Integrative seminars will include child welfare-specific content, including:

  • Family-centered social work practice
  • Family support, preservation and reunification services
  • Family group decision making
  • Promotion of family self-reliance
  • Child protection services
  • Child development
  • Concurrent planning
  • Foster and kinship care services
  • Adoption services
  • Children's mental health
  • Substance abuse issues in child welfare
