Academy and In-Service Training Program

Prior to the development of Academy, the child welfare program in Idaho was found by Federal reviewers to be out of compliance with national training standards. A Performance Improvement Plan was developed to address the training needs for new child welfare workers and their supervisors.

Academy was developed to ensure that all new CFS social worker and clinician employees receive consistent standardized training to prepare them to fulfill their new job responsibilities; to provide ongoing training to seasoned social workers and clinicians to assist them with their professional development, and; to provide training for supervisors that will prepare them specifically for supervision of a child welfare workforce.

In the interest of best practices, the Department has established standards of practice in Child Welfare and Children's Mental Health. These standards were reviewed and updated in the fall of 2006.

This section of the Idaho Child Welfare Partnership site provides tools for Academy participants and their supervisors.

Knowing Who You Are
A journey to help youth in care develop their racial and ethnic identity. Knowing Who You Are is a three-part curriculum for social workers and other adults and professionals in the child welfare system. Created with the direct collaboration of alumni of foster care, youth still in care, birth parents, and resource families, the curriculum helps child welfare professionals explore race and ethnicity, preparing them to support the healthy development of their constituent’s racial and ethnic identity.
